Our Douglas Fir cladding can be supplied with:

  • waney edge (horizontal)

  • double waney edge (vertical)

  • straight edge

  • feather edge

We can mill any thickness of board, although 20mm is generally ideal for cladding. Stock lengths are typically 2.4, 3.6, 4.2, 5.0 and 6.0m .

Waney edge is a traditional, rustic style of cladding and our most popular board. It is sawn on three side with the bottom edge left with the bark on. As well as looking really attractive, the waney edge can enhance the life of the cladding (if installed correctly) and is ideal for houses, barns and garages.

Double waney edge boards are slices of tree with bark left on both sides. They are ideal for barn cladding and fencing and make very attractive and sturdy gates, as well as offering particularly good value for cladding.

Straight edge boards can be used horizontally as overlap cladding or vertically- with a shadow gap, board on board or with a batten over the gap (commonly known as muntin board) for added detail.

Feather edge boards can, again, be used vertically or horizontally and are typically used for cladding or fencing.

When working out the square meterage required, we allow for a 30-40mm overlap- where required.

Whichever type of cladding you’re looking for, we can mill it to order and are happy to provide advice on how to install it and the ideal fixings to use.
